Severed hairs and disheveled, expression of suffering that marks the woman's face and mouth open are characteristics specific mourning rituals in ancient Greece.
These mourners figures are indeed known since the archaic period: they were part of funerary furniture and have been found in tombs at Tanagra, but also in Crete and Canossa in Italy.
This head from a workshop Tanagra said workshop Dame en bleue, identified by the physico-chemical analysis the type of clay used and the stylistic analysis of the produced parts.
