H 24.5 x W 15 x D 11.5 cm

An elegant oval marble feminine head dating from the Hellenistic period, which features a neat and almost symmetrical parted hairstyle that covers the entirety of the ears. The woman seems to gaze slightly upwards and features a closed mouth. The head is slightly smaller than a real sized one.
A significant portion of the nasal ridge and a portion of the back of the head (which would most likely feature the typical bun hairstyle) are unfortunately missing. The neck would have most likely connected the piece to a now lost full length statue.
The stylistical choices of the head are similar to those found on the “Terracotta female head” and the “Marble Head of Athena”, both of which are preserved at the MET Museum (in NYC) and which were created during the Hellenistic Period.
Provenance: private collection of A.A.
